Big Anti-Capitalist Protest Coming This Summer

Breitbart reports that this June 5th has been designated by some neo-socialists as a day of global strike against “capitalism.”

The call comes out of the anti-Davos conference being held in Brazil right now. The Brazilian president herself expressed the need for a new and more equitable and “sustainable” economic system.

I agree. I think we actually should implement capitalism.

But we have capitalism Nick, and it is not serving us. We must replace it with more state control and management of the economy. This will create a more equitable world and justice will burst out like tulips on a spring afternoon.

No. That is not correct, and it is because many people do not understand what capitalism actually is that I have serious concern.

“Too big to fail” is not capitalism. Centraly planned economic manipulation by the Fed isn’t capitalism.

Capitalism has winners and losers as defined by the marketplace, which in my opinion is the fairest way to pick winners and losers. Crony capitalism (which we have now) has winners and losers determined by the state.  Yet we are told time and time again that the answer to our current economic challenges will be found in the expansion of the state. You know the same state that is doing such a good job now. So more of that will cure things.

I agree; let’s try to have real capitalism for a change before giving up on the whole thing.

As long as there is humans there will be a market in one way or the other. What’s wrong is corruption, people being bought, some working as slaves while others have more money than they can spend. The entire monetary system is built on flawed principles.

Let’s create a pro-capitalism rally around the same time where everyone goes out and buys something…OH we do that already…never mind!!!

Right on Nick.  I think the main reason we face so many challenges is that so few people actually understand that we do not have capitalism.  Even the people who are supposed to defend it (mainstream republicans) are at a loss because they do not grasp that capitalism is just peace applied to every aspect of human life.

    Comment re-posted from Google+ … couldn’t resist.

heheh.. for people with a “reason” fetish, this piece from anti-crony capitalism sure is skimpy on facts, possibly to make room for all the crackpottery:

“The call comes out of the anti-Davos conference being held in Brazil right now. The Brazilian president himself expressed the need for a new and more equitable and ‘sustainable’ economic system.”

“That anti-Davos thingy” is a reference to the Foro Social Mundial (World Social Forum) which is scheduled to coincide with the WEF every year as evidence of their slogan: “another world is possible”. That world they are talking about is not exclusively what you call “neo-socialist” (more commonly called “socialismo del siglo xxi” or “libertarian socialism” (‘libertarian’ is used there with the classical definition that is still used everywhere in the world except the United States)).

If the anti-crony pundit was intellectually curious enough to find out what the FSM actually is, perhaps the misinformation and zealotry could be toned down a little. The FSM is not just an anti-whatever conference and radical free-marketeers have a place within the FSM  (much to the dismay of some of the old guard reds that attend every year but such is pluralism) and are welcomed — albeit challenged on the battlefield of ideas — to contribute to the tidal wave of meaningful change that this annual orgy of ideas has been making happen for some time now.

It seems like a good opportunity for the anti-crony blogger since the FSM enjoys an unprecedented popularity right now and continues to build momentum from country to country, improving the lives of millions and effectively destroying one entrenched crony capitalist infestation after another (something that I don’t believe any “US self-styled libertarian group” has ever done … ever … in all of human history …).

The icing on the cake is that while it’s very nice the author sees fit to make ill-informed prescriptions for how to live on behalf of the world’s billions, it might seem more credible if one of the most popular (domestically and internationally) heads of state in the world, Dilma, was properly recognized. I know that reflexive pronouns can be tricky in Portuguese and Spanish but this is English and so I’m quite sure it should be “The Brazilian president herself” .. :) Such ignorance kind of takes the wind out of the absurd cartoon trying to poke fun at *other* people for being stupid, no?

We are indeed intellectually curious and appreciate the thoughtful response. We have actually actively reached out to OWS and the new new left and will continue to. We believe free markets are the way out but there are those who we respect who disagree with us. As for Dilma- you were absolutely right to take me to task. The pronoun has been changed.
