The establishment Right and Left unload on David Stockman, Because he’s right and they are scared.

Stockman book cc cc

So Biden’s economic advisor Jared Bernstein and David Frum, speech writer for George Bush have both come out railing against David Stockman and his new book. This is a shock.

Though the book is not perfect, it is one of the best books on economic history that I’ve read.

In fact I’d even say that it is a classic. It should be read by anyone who cares about this country and no one should be able to graduate with a degree in economics or political science in this country without reading the book. (How’s that for an endorsement?)

Stockman has nothing to lose by telling the truth. Nothing. The establishment has everything to gain by trying to marginalize this book. Stockman pulls no punches. He is brutal and stark in his assessments and he is for the vast part, right.

The scariest thing for the establishment is an honest man with some legitimate credentials. In my opinion that is exactly the situation here.

I believe David Stockman is just fed up with the economic and political bull pucky which passes for serious political discussion in this country. He knows he’s better informed, has more experience, and frankly is smarter than his critics and he endeavors in his new book to tell the truth.

That doesn’t happen that often. He offers more than a glimpse behind the curtain. He pulls it back.

What an amazing concept, a guy with nothing to lose, with more insight than anyone in Washington giving an honest to God assessment of the economic calamity we the American people are now presented with?

No, no, don’t read that book. You might see that the current system is gamed against you.

Seriously, who do you trust? The guys who want to keep the charade going? Who have everything to gain in their career if the American people continue to buy the suicidal nonsense they have been sold for a decade? Or the retired guy who knows where all the economic skeletons are buried who wants to shine a light on a system which disgusts him?

Way to go David, you’ve got the Washington big shots puckying themselves.

Why is it that radical far left Democrats/Obamarats, and the GOP RINO est Right, wants to destroy, in the public mind, the principles and reality of Free Market Capitalism and US Constitutional limited govt., over the People-  because they know it works.  And when it works and so successfully as when it did under President Reagan, they- the radical left / Socialist Marxist Obamarats and the Crony RINO est Right, would be effectively out of business- the business of big govt control over People and Property- ie; they would be out of power.

My point is "no politician is our friend" but some people sure like to re- write history with Reagan. Its a two class country and the wrong class is running it.

Of course he is right. I get a chuckle out of the experts who argue that Stockman is wrong because the stock market is going up and earnings are following. The argument is that he is wrong because things are 'going great' right now. What they are missing is that someone could make the same argument if they were to obtain a massive line of credit and then quit their job and use that debt to live off of. Things would look great for several years until the debt was exhausted. At that point big trouble would begin. As a country we have been repeating this exact behavior in a cyclular fashion for the past 100+ years. We drive ourselves over a debt cliff and then repeat the process. At some point we will have weakened the foundation of a our society to the point where bail outs will no longer work. In these people in the government on both sides of the aisle could be beyond what is immediately in front of them they would recognoze this.

Actually I'm a product of 60s and 70s education system...you know- before the communist indoctrination took over. Reagan was the first President I had the privilege to vote for. I lived through the horror of 4 yrs of Carter and was much better off after 8 yrs of Reagan! Don't believe the revisionist bs that's taught now.

FOX News’ Bill O’Reilly talked about the recent comments made by Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann at CPAC about what she considered to be excesses of President Obama. O’Reilly showed a clip of the speech Bachmann gave at CPAC as well as the followup interview that CNN did with Bachmann when they found out some of Bachmann’s claims were not true. O’Reilly actually ended up defending President Obama by saying that his administration was spending less than the previous administration on perks. Reagan did a great job just ask the 200 + Marines -Sailors-Army and Civilians personnel that died in The Marine Barracks in Beirut Lebanon 30 years ago and don't forget the Immigration reform act of 1986 and a larger deficit when he left office ,etc ,etc

Martin Shawl, open your eyes man, do you really believe the current potus-pos isn't doing underhanded things? How about unemployment figures that go down even though new jobless claims go up? This prick is in year 5 and things are as bad as ever ...and no its not Bush's fault.

Reagan raised my taxes and counted the military as workers to make the unemployment rate look better along with other underhanded things. Reagan started this bullshit and he sucks. Quit trying to re-write history!

What scandal, it's simple greed on the part of the wealthy and apathy on the part of the American citizens and the is changing. We are finally keeping good politicians like Bernie Sanders and electing people like Elizabeth Warren. The kid of Occupy woke up my generation and we are taking to the streets just like in the sixties. We are retiring and are not happy

This scandal goes back further than Reagan, John. I read a preview first couple pages, and it also involves LBJ, Nixon, etc. Each had created some aspect of what hell we are dealing with today. Seems like we either remove everyone and restart the system, or wait for collapse and rebuild, but that will be extremely messy.

Poor Benjamin Stockton, misled his entire life as to how true honest capitalism should work. Capitalism is the ONLY economic system that lifts the most people out of poverty provided it's not perverted by crooks and crooked government.

Casey Stott
Casey Stott

That's completely untrue of capitalism. You're clearly ignorant and just spouting out some nonsense that you have heard before. Our current problems with income inequality aren't because of capitalism, they are a direct result of big government. If we had a free-market and the government's only role was the protect workers from exploitation and make sure the market's stayed competitive by regulating and prohibiting monopolies, then we would have the closest thing to a perfect system. The problem is that people like you blame capitalism and go vote for politicians who claim government can fix our problems. Bigger government in turn gives those with the money enough incentive to buy influence and power to get ahead and allows them to buy-out competition rather than competing the old fashion way, by winning over the consumer. This system of lobbying for power to get ahead rather than competing in a free-market is what has caused the rich to get richer. If the market was truly free, the rich would only get richer if the consumer also benefited. Instead we are exploited while the rich get richer and the politicians also get richer. Again, this is government's fault, not capitalism's.

What do you know about capitalism? Only what you were told to believe, apparently. You are confused between "capitalism" (the ONLY possible fair system) and capitalism abused by the greedy and selfish. Not all are greedy & selfish, my friend. I know a few different wealthy folks who gave their company to their employees. Would you complain about that? There is a WORLD of difference between working for a benevolent and fair employer in a free market economy and /anywhere/ else. Don't like where you are at? If you are good enough and work hard enough to be worthy- vote with your feet. Go find someplace better. Or better yet start your own business and find out what REAL hard work is! Oh wait, with all the gov't "help" out there this would be nearly impossible today. :-(

@Tim Brunner As am I, and as did live through and under the very same economic and political circumstances of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, as I also served in the US Military from the 1979, til I retired in 2000, and thus the People understood by reality, what worked best for their family's prosperity- Free Market Capitalism and US Constitutional limited govt., where the private sector was unleashed from the massive constraints of an all powerful suffocating govt..
