Communism and socialism are dead ends economically. In many cases, not all, it was/is death itself.
No other system of economics has resulted in more lives destroyed and more human spirit crushed.
When one makes the case for “socialism” understand that socialists almost always start with good intentions. They think they are helping the “worker.” In the end however because it is a system which rejects markets and real prices things start to go wrong in the economy. (Often very quickly.) Then the political class panics and finds it must use coercion to keep things in line as the economy grinds down and as the fat of the prior economic order is burned off. The question then is, how far is leadership willing to go? In some cases, The Soviet Union, China, they were willing to go all the way.
They did so because they thought they could create heaven on Earth. But they couldn’t. They only raised hell.
