We need to be cutting everywhere and there are billions and billions which should be cut from the Pentagon budget.
So “performance” is the “primary retention factor” NOW? What was it before?
Defense is one of the most crony areas of American government. The amount of taxpayer money just thrown around by the Pentagon and which finds its way into the pockets of defense contractors is massive. Defense, especially civilian personnel, is an area ripe for cuts. Such a cull appears unlikely however.
Gabbard stepped down from her post as a vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee earlier in the year to support Sanders — and fight Hillary Clinton — in the primaries. She stood by Sanders through the Democratic convention, only announcing she would vote for Clinton days after the convention ended.
“President-elect Trump asked me to meet with him about our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS,
I think there are a lot of people out there who would like to, and likely will mount a “Hillary defense.”
No one in Washington really seems to care about reining in the size of government. (There is a tiny minority.) The Dems want welfare and corporate welfare. The Republicans want corporate welfare and “defense” spending. There is no real effort to save money for the taxpayers. And the thing is many supposed small government “conservatives” give “defense” a pass on spending. Much of the military is chock full of boondoggles. Anyone who has been around the military (and I am a Navy brat) knows this.
(From The Conservative Review)
Last year, dozens of congressional Republicans teamed up with Democrats the break the spending caps that conservatives won in 2011. This year, Senator Barbara Mikulski (F, 2%), the top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, has extended the same demand – there must be “parity” between increases in defense and domestic spending.
And sure enough, some in Congress have already called for more military spending beyond the massive bump they received last year.
It’s all too much. GOP, Dem, whatever. The point of the prior article was to illuminate how pervasive military contractor money is. So much so that even Bernie Sanders, crunchy ole’ socialist Bernie Sanders, is caught up in it. This shouldn’t be surprising to his supporters as the F-35 is based out of Vermont. Of course some defense money is going to come his way.
We have no horse in this race. (Or any other race.) Bernie,
Boston Dynamics was recently bought by Google. Google is now the company Alphabet. Alphabet is a huge defense contractor.
In many areas of the economy these robots will revolutionize business. They will close doors and they will open new doors for humans to pursue prosperity. Good or bad however the everyday person should keep an eye on what is going on in robotics. There is digital writing on the wall for many professions.
I grew up on Navy bases. To this day I am a Navy Football fan. I am a navy brat. But this brat knows our military spending is way out of control. There is no discipline.
I’ll will say one thing for the F-35. It looks cool.
Top o’ the list? The F-35 joint strike fighter.
This is one of the areas where conservatives need to come to terms with reality. Often “defense” is just a big, giant, massive works program for the defense industry. Money isn’t real in the Military Industrial Complex. A billion here. 10 billion there. We missed a deadline by years and in the process guaranteed ourselves jobs during those years?
