The Democrats might not be totally dead, but they are a regional party at this point. And they don’t have very good prospects.
This is an interesting article because it hints of the tectonic shifts going on in the electorate. Some shifts, like Pennsylvania going Republican are obvious. Others are much more subtle, the result of quiet movements in political magma bubbling under the surface.
In the attached article, Politico (being Politico) makes sure to trot out the already tired memes of Tumptist racism. The article also perpetuates the “Steve Bannon is a ‘white nationalist’” bit. (Which for the record,
This is an article that needs to be read.
Both conventions will no doubt be ridiculous spectacles. But Uber feels that the spectacle in the City of Brotherly Love is more politically advantageous than hanging with Republicans. This despite the fact that Democrats across the nation have fought Uber’s efforts to expand at every turn and that both Clinton and Sanders have been highly critical of the company. (This is actually one of the main reasons Uber is passing on Cleveland of course. They are intimidated and figure Clinton will likely win so it’s not worth being “tarnished”
My favorite part of this video is when a guy holding a Bernie sign looks over at the other side of the room and says, “Democracy… You got something against it?”
Lights were turned on. Old people got upset. (As did the young people.) It was ugly. I’ve got to figure out which convention I’m going to go see this year and at this point the Democratic convention looks like it will be the most fun to watch.
I have to say, this lady does an excellent Hillary Clinton. And a pretty good Bernie Sanders.
Having 3rd party candidates on the debate stage would only be good for the Republic. The debates are controlled by a political cartel and they should be broken open.
Remember Coke and Pepsi are not OPPOSITES, just flavors. Same for the Dems and the GOP.
But it wasn’t just Boehner who sold out taxpayers. The GOP Military Industrial Complex guys made sure they got their money along with the Democrats. More spending. More government. More insider dealing. More crony capitalism.
It’s not a done deal officially yet but it’s basically done.
The electoral college in 2016.
It is entertaining. All the “Ready for Hillary” bumper stickers seem to have vanished over the last month or so. Donald Trump is making mincemeat of the GOP party apparatus. All sorts of assumptions about the 2016 presidential race have been tossed out. Rules have been broken. New paths are being blazed.
It has all thrown the DC political class for a loop. And that is a very good thing.
This is pretty interesting data but it is of course pretty limited too. How do the unemployed vote? (Though they tend not to give to political campaigns presumably and that is where this data came from.) What does the stripper vote look like? (I guess that just depends on which convention is in town.) Or what about the all important lion tamer vote? (My bet, solidly Republican.)
We’ve been talking about this for a very long time. The play from the Wall Street banks, you know the ones you and I bailed out and kept alive after they leveraged themselves to oblivion, is to sew up the 2016 presidential contest early.
Ms. Jarrett is a product of the Chicago political game. She is a classic crony capitalist. (Though she would probably not characterize herself as ANY kind of “capitalist” I’ll bet.) Sometimes she pulled the Obamas along, other times she rode their coat tails. But she was always there. But now in the wake of an historic defeat at the hands of the Republicans the generally quite liberal and absolutely insider Politico is calling for her head.
