The GOP before Rand’s filibuster and the GOP after are different animals.
A 50 point swing. That folks, just does not happen. But thanks in large part to Rand Paul’s stand in the Senate the tide has shifted more quickly than the Bay of Fundy with a full moon.

Rand Paul is a lot more palatable to the GOP than his father but that is not only a reflection of his slightly less strident stands in the foreign policy area. It also reflects the fact that classical liberals, libertarians, are gaining strength within the party. At CPAC the annual gathering of conservatives in Washington DC, Rand spoke for 10 minutes and the house stood with him. A lot has changed since the George Bush years. Heck a lot has changed since last year.

Yesterday I got to meet Rand Paul (briefly and in passing) and I have to say I was impressed. The guy is funny and he can think on his feet.
I thanked him for what he did in the Senate last week. I believe the issues he raised and brought to the fore are of vital importance to the American people.

Rand Paul is part of a Republican New Wave which has been building and since his now famous filibuster has crashed onto the Hill sweeping much of the old guard aside. McCain looks suddenly toothless. Same for Senator Graham. Senator McConnell just endorsed (with Senator Paul) the industrial production of hemp in Kentucky. Things have changed dramatically in the party over the past 2 months and especially in the past 2 days.
Sadly, AgainstCronyCapitalism.org didn’t make the list.

There is little doubt that our surveillance state is about to take a big step forward. New policing technologies will change the way we live (they always do).
“I will speak until I can no longer speak,” Paul said. “I will speak as long as it takes, until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important, that your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty by a court.”

Our Attorney General says this if things were sketchy enough a drone strike on American soil against a US citizen could be warranted. That whole due process thing? And the military not operating within the country? C’mon. Those ideas are so 20th century. You do know we have the NDAA right?
