There are crony interests on both sides of this equation.
We at ACC are interested to see where this goes. We have “partnered” with Facebook on some things and in most respects the company has been good to work with. But this inquiry could be important.
And you thought social media was bad now? Just you wait. Who’s ready for the 2024 election?
AI and algorithms have been a source of hope and concern for this website for a long time.
We are not suggesting that people should be expected to learn the math behind algorithms. Just that we as a society need to become more aware of how algorithms are used to manipulate human behavior. Such manipulation has important political ramifications.
This is interesting and something with which many of our readers I am sure are familiar.
The election’s over. Be cool everybody. Be cool.
Not a bad idea for those on the insulated “Left.” Not a bad idea for Trump folks to befriend a few Mother Jones readers either. (That is if one has the ability to discuss political issues like an adult. If not, just stick to one’s echo chamber.)
If this is true it’s pretty damning. As if events weren’t damning enough.
This is a steady slide. Certain speech is to be celebrated. Other speech is to be crushed. Dissent to be extinguished. The state is who is in control.
“You think your social media will save you? You think you’ll be able to express your backward ideas in freedom, like a free person? You don’t even know that you are under our heel. Get in line and do as your betters command. We control the government. We control the universities.

However in the interest of good business it is wise to address this issue openly and honestly. Facebook is a great company and for it to remain so people of every political persuasion need to feel that it is open to them and that they aren’t being gamed.
For the record, though we are not a “conservative”
Facebook reacts to the story from earlier today.
(From The Washington Examiner)
“There are rigorous guidelines in place for the review team to ensure consistency and neutrality,” the statement said. “These guidelines do not permit the suppression of political perspectives. Nor do they permit the prioritization of one viewpoint over another or one news outlet over another.”
A report on Monday by the technology blog Gizmodo said the people responsible for updating Facebook’s “trending”
Facebook is a private company and it has a right to do whatever it wishes with its platform. We will also say that Facebook has been an excellent outlet for ACC generally. But the issues presented in the attached article from Gizmodo should be aired and they are of concern. Facebook is a widely trusted brand. Everyone uses it, “liberals,” conservatives, libertarians, everyone. Facebook should seek to maintain this trust. It’s one of the things which makes Facebook such a special and truly great company.
