The attached article raises interesting issues but they are not new issues. Of course one must be aware of things like algorithms that tailor ads for our own specific consumption. But the “planners,” the “controllers” are increasingly concerned that people lack the ability to understand how the Internet actually works. They are concerned because of you know, Brexit, Trump, and the disintegration of the EU/globalist dream before their eyes. These people would much rather the government (which we must ALWAYS remember has its own agenda,
One particularly remarkable thing about these speeches is that it took Wikileaks to get them out to the public. Clinton gave dozens of speeches after her failed 2008 run and yet no recording or partial recording of these speeches emerged to our knowledge. No one had their phone on? No one?
Regardless the details are out now and they reveal about what many people expected, someone who is very cozy with the banking industry and who seemed to take some pride in the fact that her (mostly) newly amassed wealth (largely from speeches for $200,00+) separated her from the petty middle class.
Director Brennan says that it would be “unhelpful” to release the 28 pages of the September 11th report which some say implicate or at least connect official Saudidom.
My question is,”To whom would such declassification be unhelpful?” I’d say it might be quite helpful to historians and the American people who would like to get a complete picture of what happened on that day. On the other hand it might be unhelpful to people who would prefer to keep history muddled.
If you are “resisting capitalism” you are “resisting human progress.” You are resisting the voluntary exchange of goods and services. You are resisting opportunity for people to make a better life for themselves through hard work. You are trading that opportunity for a system which rewards the uncreative and unambitious. (And perhaps you understand this.) You are fundamentally resisting FREEDOM and LIBERTY, because “economic liberty,” the right to do what you want with that which you own, is not separate from social FREEDOM and LIBERTY.
Why do we allow politicians and government in general to lie to us? Andrew Napolitano explores and explains.
Interesting that Dems still trusted the media more than Republicans and independents all through the Bush years.
Of course The Post thinks the fact that the public no longer trusts it is a bad thing. That a small group of media outlets can no longer completely dominate the news “narrative” is terrible in the eyes of one of the #oldmedia outlets. We wouldn’t expect them to like it. But that people no longer trust the “media” particularly the “legacy,”
Yikes. Life at NBC News sounds like a nightmare. According to this article from Vanity Fair, Brian Williams, the now disgraced newsman, sounds like a nightmare. There are few things worse than a powerful insecure person, and it appears Williams was certainly that.
Is this life at a news institution approaching the edge of irrelevance? Is this what the decline of a once great empire looks like?
Perhaps. We don’t have the answers yet.
I’ll say that “misleading” is too kind. The word “lie” is probably more apt. But it is an official lie so many people, even in 2015, after all we’ve gone through as a country, still buy the lie.
Fewer do than in the past but still too many.
I know this is a shock, but Gruber and the president both knew that premiums would rise dramatically once Obamcare was instituted. Yet, as Gruber explained in his now famous comment, he, the president, and Congress all counted on the “stupidity of the American public.”
Actually I remember massive resistance to Obamacare. The voters of Massachusetts – Massachusetts – elected Senator Brown in an effort to keep the program from happening. Seems to me that a large part of the American people wasn’t “stupid”
“If you’re a state and you don’t set up an exchange, that means your citizens don’t get their tax credits.” -Jonathan Gruber, Obamacare’s “architect
“We just tax the insurance companies, they pass it on in higher prices that offset the tax break we get.… It’s a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter.”
We shall see. Gruber has had plenty of help. The President, Nancy Pelosi,
Even many of my liberal friends now acknowledge a strong statist bias in the #oldmedia. It’s not just how stories are reported but perhaps more importantly WHAT STORIES are reported.
Don’t be. Government reporting tricks will make it all better.
That’s fewer than 1 in 300 Americans.
But the president is touting 7 million signups. What gives?
Is anyone, anyone, surprised by this?
Senator Tom Coburn weighs in on the current state of affairs in Washington DC.
