This feels about right to me. I was in Alabama a couple of months ago and it is pretty amazing how much less expensive many things were. A good solid high quality and interesting meal was 2/3 the price I’d pay where I live. Houses are probably half the cost. And where I was visiting was a lovely little college town, not out in the middle of nowhere.

This is an extremely well done article from The Washington Post. Maps can put things into perspective. They help us make sense of the world around us. Knowing where The Crimea is for example is probably a good thing these days as politicians rattle sabers and jockey for position. If things were to get hot it is our sons and daughters after all who would find themselves in harm’s way. Might be nice to know where they are going (or aren’t).

My wife calls a shopping cart a “buggy” and pronounces crayon as “crown.” She calls a glove box “the dash board.” She’s an Air Force brat and lived all over the country so I guess she picked up these tendencies here and there. The English language certainly is an interesting study.
