Monsanto is arguably the most crony company in the world.
Monsanto is arguably the world’s most crony company.
Bingo! We subsidize sugar, corn, all sorts of nasty stuff. (And yes I like eating both too.) Then taxpayers have to pay for the treatment of diabetes etc. after people get fat and unhealthy on the “food” we fund. (You know who likes food stamps the most? The big food companies.)
Some believe Monsanto is the most crony company on the planet. I think it’s in the top tier for sure.
Newt Gingrich can be legitimately funny. He is here.
“You have never, ever in your career seen a serious adult who’s wealthy, independent, has been a presidential nominee, suck up at the rate that Mitt Romney is sucking up,” Gingrich continued. “And I am confident that he thinks now that Donald Trump is one of his closest friends, that they have so many things in common, that they’re both such wise, brilliant people.”
Gingich is pulling for Giuliani for State who isn’t really much of an improvement on Romney.
The issue as I see it is not the pay. The companies can pay their CEOs whatever they want. The issue is the heat brought on this cartoonist just because he dared to say anything about the CEO pay and raise it as an issue.
There are many crony companies. Boeing, Goldman Sachs, GE, GM, the list is long and varied. But in corn country the crony di cronies is Monsanto.
I have to admit, I care a lot about my food, but GMOs don’t particularly concern me. They do however concern people who are close to me. As such I pay special attention to the issue.
This development can only be seen as a positive one from my perspective. If these companies want to list the GMOs in their foods I am all for it. In fact it makes me more inclined to do business with them. It seems the years of pressure brought by the anti-GMO folks has borne some fruit (non GMO fruit).
There are likely more Monsanto folks in government now as this graphic is a bit dated, but it makes an important point. Some believe Monsanto is the most crony company in the world.
When I was a kid there were honey bees everywhere. I remember clover blossoms covered with the things. They were the “standard” bee. Now I rarely see honey bees. And this is particularly odd as I live in what was once called the “fruit bowl of Virginia.” There are apple, peach, and cherry trees all over the place and at one time the trees were full of honey bees (at blossom time).
Now when I see a honey bee on a hike or something I have my kids come over and look at it.
The following excerpt comes from an article in the “liberal” journal Harpers. Monsanto it seems is, and has been everywhere including deep in the Democratic party.
